This is our home. It has been torn apart by your hate, selfishness and heartlessness.
But together, we can fix what you have broken.
My second entry for the "Bring Your Vision to Life" competition.
I wasn't really going to participate in the competition at first, but after some thought I decided it would be a great opportunity to improve my painting skills and practice some more.
During the conception stage, I decided not to seek visual inspiration, especially in the competition gallery. Instead, I listened to a lot of music to get ideas for my entry. As usual, it was a Nine Inch Nails' song that sparked the idea, this time being We're in this Together. This isn't really an illustration of the song, like I've done before, it's rather just a concept that is loosely inspired by a couple of lines from the song.
When I started to work on the first sketches, I decided I would be giving the scenery some personality. With that in mind, I went with some a stylized look for the buildings: very thin, but still tall with traces of Art Déco inspiration.
For the general atmosphere, I wanted a sterile look. No direct sunlight, no water, no fire and lots and lots of dust and fog.
The painting only started when everything was drawn on paper. It was a great experience, apart from the fact that the 3GB of RAM on my computer proved too little to handle the PSD file, so I had to work on three files separately.
I'm definitely happy with the end result as, technically, it's one of my best pieces so far. The deadline meant that some details had to be spared and some areas didn't get as much attention as they could have had otherwise, but I can't say I'm not proud of my job!
I hope you like it too, please leave some feedback, I'd love to hear your opinion.
Edit: Both my entries were excluded from the competition because some "reviewing member of staff [had] determined this deviation was improperly placed". I guess some moderator did not agree with something I said.
No real harm done, though it goes to show the kind of people who get the power to decide stuff around here.
This is one of your best pieces so far. Although you say you had to spare some details, I think it's perfect. I know you spent a lot of time in it and I gotta say, it was really worth it. This shows how dedicated you are. You really deserve some more attention in those pieces of yours in which you spend hours working on things that people barely notice. The draw is great. Your vision of Good and Evil in this work represents so many different things such as hate, destruction, apocalypse and at the same time hope and restart. The way you colored it, is great. I don't know how to comment on that, I just have to say your coloring skills are impressive. I am glad you decided to enter this contest and I am proud of your entries.

"I really don't care if I offended you."
You can't imagine how glad I am that I'm finally done with this. It was really sucking every last minute of free time I had. But it sure was worth it.
I better go clean my room, now!
I'm really glad you like it and think the time spent on it was worth it.
it would be fair to see you in magazines someday, as the best illustrator/designer, receiving the award you deserve
